Important safety information

Operator vigilance and responsibility

The console helps the operator to steer the vehicle. However, the driver is responsible for remaining vigilant at all times and must be in complete control of the vehicle in all situations.

The operator is responsible for the safe use of this equipment. The safety requirements indicated must be observed at all times when using the console and any relative components. All operators and personnel

assigned to work on the vehicle must be aware of the safety requirements.

Electrical safety

WARNING: An electrical system that is connected incorrectly may cause serious personal injury and may damage equipment.

When working with electrical components, observe the following rules:

  • Make sure that the negative terminal of the battery is disconnected when carry out welding work on the vehicle.
  • Check that all the electrical wiring to components is connected to the correct poles as, indicated. For safety information, consult the vehicle manual.
  • Check that the equipment is connected to earth in accordance with the installation instructions.
Use and obstacle hazards

The following list is incomplete and is intended only as a guide line. When using the console for assisted steering along a pre-defined wayline, the operator must ensure that the vehicle is:

  • A safe distance from persons and obstacles
  • A safe distance from high voltage power lines or other overhead obstacles (identify any possible overhead clearance conflicts before activating the console)
  • On private property with no public access
  • In fields free of obstructions
  • A safe distance from public roads or access points.

Note that:

  • The operator must at all times be aware of the position of the vehicle and the field conditions.
  • The operator must be able to take over control of the vehicle in the event of a temporary loss of GNSS satellite signal or differential correction signal.
  • The console cannot detect obstacles (persons, animals or other objects).
  • Only use the console in areas with no obstacles, and ensure there is always sufficient free space around the vehicle.
  • The operator must deactivate the steering function and take over manual control of the vehicle if an obstacle is encountered or the vehicle deviates from the wayline.
Activation/deactivation and manual control

WARNING: Check that the autosteer function switch is off to prevent accidental activation of assisted steering. When carrying out repairs or maintenance of the vehicle/implement, check that the vehicle can NOT move. Deactivate the steering function, apply the brakes and remove the key from the ignition switch.

When the assisted steering system is not in use, the operator must ensure that the steering function switch is OFF (all LED indicator lights are extinguished).

The operator must deactivate the assisted steering function and resume manual control in the presence of obstacles or if the vehicle deviates from the preset wayline.

To deactivate assisted steering:

  • Turn the steering wheel a few degrees OR
  • Press the autosteer OFF button on the E/O console
  • If using the external autosteer switch, use this switch to disengage the function if the aforementioned operations do not disable assisted steering.
Safe vehicle shutdown

Before leaving the vehicle, deactivate the assisted steering function, switch the external steering control (if present) to OFF, and remove the key from the ignition switch.

Using a base station

WARNING: Do not move the base station while it is in operation. Moving the base station could interfere with the assisted steering function on a system using the base station. This could result in personal injury or damage to property.

All operators and personnel must be aware of the following safety precautions.

  • Do not position the base station underneath or in proximity to high-voltage power lines.
  • When using a portable base station, make sure that the tripod is firmly attached and stable.
Optimising use of the product

Remember to backup data regularly. The console has a large but not limitless internal memory. The amount of available memory can be displayed from the diagnostics miniscreen. If the memory capacity is exceeded a warning message will be displayed.

Use file formats that are compatible with the system. Contact your dealer for information on compatible file formats.

SDF agricultural products are designed to be sturdy and to work in tough conditions. However, if the equipment is not be used for a prolonged period, store in a dry place away from direct heat sources.

Notification symbols

Two different notification symbols are used in this manual.

Note: provide additional information.

CAUTION: this warning/notification safety symbol is used in this manual to indicate that the information it refers to is very important for user safety. These warnings/notifications must be RECOGNISED and OBSERVED.
